TopTrips: 6 Top Tourist Traps

Joanne Poesch, 08/20/09
One of the things that depresses me the most when I’m traveling is when my ideal image of a destination gets shattered -- by t-shirts. The years spent dreaming of having the pyramids in Egypt, the Eiffell Tower in Paris or Australia's Great Barrier Reef all to myself instantly go up in smoke when I see hoards of tourist and souvenir vendors.

We asked our fellow travelers where they’ve encountered the worst tourist traps and their answers span the globe –but hopefully they won’t discourage you from traveling! Just remember -- tourism makes the world go round!

South of the Border has been the KING of tourist traps on Interstate 95 for the last 50 years. I haven’t visited there since college, but I wonder if they have REAL Hispanics working there now.
Their stupid SOB billboards are visible all the way to Florida! :-)
