In all the times I've traveled to California, I've never actually spent time lying on the beach! We tend to travel either inland, to L.A. or San Francisco or at a time when it's too cold for sunbathing, but the next time we head out west we're stopping in Santa Cruz which, according to Lonely Planet, has some of the most fabulous beaches in California.
california-beaches-sm1Los Angeles may have Baywatch, but where California’s beaches are concerned, Santa Cruz more than holds its own. The choices are plentiful: primo surf spots, open sandy stretches and craggy, bird-watching coves.
