Tattoo Traditions

Joanne Poesch, 06/26/09
I've always been intrigued by the look of Polynesian tattoos, but after reading this Pilot Guides article on the history and practice of tattooing in Tahiti, I'm pretty sure I don't want to go authentic if I ever decide to get one!
Polynesian Tattoos Tattooing is an integral part of the Tahitan culture and has been practiced since 1500 BC. The western word tattoo is taken from the Tahiti word "tatau" meaning open wound!
